What are my options for dentures?

During your consultation, we will thoroughly assess your oral health and recommend the most suitable denture option for you. Your options may include:
Complete dentures: These are used when all of your natural teeth are missing. They replace a full set of upper and/or lower teeth.
Partial dentures: If you have some remaining natural teeth, partial dentures will replace only the missing teeth.
Both complete and partial dentures can be either conventionally supported or implant-supported.

How long does it take to make a denture?

The length of the denture creation process can vary depending on several factors. Let me explain the general timeline to you.
During the initial consultation, we will discuss your specific needs and examine your oral health. I will also take impressions of your mouth and gather all the necessary information to create your custom dentures.
The next step is bite registration, where we record and analyze the way your upper and lower teeth come together when you bite.
Using the mouth impression and bite registration, I will create a wax model of the denture. This model will be tried in your mouth to assess fit and function.
Once the wax model is approved, I will fabricate your dentures using high-quality and durable materials to ensure longevity and a natural appearance.
Once the denture is ready, we will schedule a fitting appointment. During this visit, I will place the dentures in your mouth and make any necessary adjustments to ensure a comfortable fit and proper alignment with your natural teeth and gums.
While the overall timeline can vary, on average, the denture creation process from the initial consultation to the final fitting may take approximately 4 to 6 weeks.
In urgent or emergency situations, dentures can be fabricated within a shorter timeframe.
However, it’s important to prioritize quality over speed to ensure that your dentures are carefully crafted to meet your specific requirements.

FAQs

How long can I expect my denture to last?

The lifespan of dentures can vary due to various factors. Let me provide you with some insights:
Temporary or immediate dentures should be replaced within a year or less, depending on the denturist’s recommendation. On average, both full and partial dentures last between 5 to 10 years. It’s important to note that these timeframes are estimates, and the actual duration can differ based on individual circumstances.
Regular care and maintenance play a crucial role. Practicing proper oral hygiene, including daily cleaning and brushing, significantly extends their lifespan. Moreover, wear and tear depend on your unique oral conditions, such as bite strength and gum health.
Changes in mouth structure and gum condition over time may require adjustments or denture replacement. Regular check-ups with your denturist are essential to monitor denture condition, identify potential issues, and receive guidance on appropriate timing for denture replacement.

FAQs

How long can I wear my denture every day?

The duration of wearing dentures each day can vary depending on your specific situation. After getting your first denture, it is recommended to gradually increase the duration from a few hours at a time to comfortably wearing it all day and removing it at bedtime.
This approach allows your mouth to adjust to the denture and helps identify any areas that may require adjustment for a proper fit. As your mouth adapts, you can gradually increase the daily wear time.
It is generally advised to wear dentures during the day and remove them before bedtime to promote mouth rest, good oral hygiene practices, and denture cleaning.
